Positions and Balances

Materials:

  • Soft surface (carpet, grass, gymnastic mat)
  • Balance beam (4" wide: painters tape outline, chalk on sidewalk, 2x4 beam)
  • Hanging bar (playground bar, monkey bars, climbing dome, etc.)

Look at the pictures below and try each of the positions and balances. See if you can hold each one for 30 seconds.

Stations

You might not be able to do all of these without the right equipment.

Watch each station anyway and maybe you'll be able to practice at a friends house or at a playground. Be safe and have fun.


Extension Activity (optional)

After you have practiced both of our gymnastic classes in this unit and learned and practiced your positions, balances, jumps, and rolls- put everything together a series of stations in your own parkour course. Learn about parkour gymnastics in the video below and maybe even get some ideas for your own course.
